CX Flow Pro: The RFID Handheld Utility for the CX1500N

A handheld RFID reader is only as useful as the software that gets the data where it needs to go. CX Flow Pro is the utility app that ships on every Identium CX1500N UHF RFID handheld, and it is built around a simple idea: you should be able to scan tags and push the data into your existing system on day one — without writing a single line of integration code. This post walks through what CX Flow Pro does, the three ways it can deliver scan data, and where it earns its keep in the field.

What CX Flow Pro is

CX Flow Pro is an on-device Android app that runs on the CX1500N — a rugged Android 12 terminal with a 4.5 dBi UHF module, an integrated 1D/2D barcode engine and an 11,550 mAh hot-swap battery. The app drives the reader’s embedded UHF module, configures how tags are read, and hands the result to whatever system you use. Because it lives on the device, there is nothing to install on a server and nothing to maintain in the cloud to get started.

Three ways to get data off the device

The whole point of CX Flow Pro is that it meets your IT estate where it already is. There are three integration surfaces, in increasing order of effort:

SurfaceWhat it doesIntegration effort
Keyboard wedgeTypes the scanned EPC/barcode straight into whatever field is focusedZero — works with any web app, ERP, Excel or text box
HTTP webhook (Auto Mode)POSTs a JSON object to your endpoint in real time, one per scanLow — just receive a JSON POST
Android SDKFull programmatic reader control inside your own Android appDeveloper — build a custom app

1. Keyboard wedge — zero integration

In keyboard-emulator mode, CX Flow Pro behaves exactly like a USB barcode gun: pull the trigger, and the captured EPC or barcode is typed into whichever input field has focus, optionally followed by an Enter or Tab. That means it works instantly with any web form, any desktop ERP screen, a Google Sheet, or your warehouse app — no API, no middleware, no project. For a huge number of stock-take and data-entry jobs, this is all you ever need.

2. Real-time HTTP webhook — live data push

Turn on Auto Mode, paste in a webhook URL, and every de-duplicated scan is serialised to JSON and sent to your backend over HTTP as it happens. The payload is a flat object you can parse in a couple of lines:

FieldDescription
epcTag EPC (hex)
tidTag TID, when the output format includes it
userUser-memory contents, when included
barcodeBarcode / QR value, for barcode captures
formattedThe fully composed output string (EPC, TID, prefix/suffix, etc.)
deviceReader model, e.g. CX1500N
timeISO-8601 timestamp with the device’s timezone offset

You choose what gets sent with one of ten output-format presets (EPC; EPC+TID; EPC+TID+User; with or without barcode and timestamp), set a dedupe window so the same tag isn’t posted twice, and that’s it. The webhook is one-way and fire-and-forget by design — keep it simple, host the endpoint behind HTTPS, and validate the fields server-side. From there your ERP, WMS or a cloud function does the rest.

3. Android SDK — full control for custom apps

When you want to build your own branded Android app, CX Flow Pro is backed by a native UHF SDK (Java/Kotlin) that exposes far more than the webhook: continuous multi-tag inventory at hundreds of reads per second, single-tag identify, read/write of every memory bank (Reserved, EPC, TID, User), EPC write, lock/perma-lock and kill, Gen2 tag filtering, and live per-read metadata (RSSI, frequency, phase, read count, antenna). It is the same SDK CX Flow Pro itself is built on, so anything the app can do, your app can do too.

Field controls that actually matter

CX Flow Pro exposes the reader settings that change real-world read performance:

  • Adjustable RF power — and a proximity power-sweep for find-a-tag. Drop the power and follow the live RSSI like a metal detector to home in on one specific item on a crowded shelf.
  • Region and frequency band selection, including India’s 865–867 MHz UHF band.
  • Gen2 Session (S0–S3) and Target (A/B) control, so dense populations of tags read cleanly without re-counting the same tag.
  • Dedupe window to suppress repeat reads of the same code.
  • UHF and 1D/2D barcode in one workflow — scan a printed label and an RFID tag from the same app, the same trigger.

These are exactly the controls that let the device deliver a high first-pass read rate on hard targets — stacked paper files, metal-shelved archives, foil-lined cartons — instead of forcing operators to re-scan.

Where CX Flow Pro shines

CX Flow Pro + CX1500N: the complete package

Software and hardware are designed together. The CX1500N handheld brings the 25 m read range, IP67 rugged build and all-day 11,550 mAh battery; CX Flow Pro brings the scanning logic, the keyboard wedge, the real-time webhook and the SDK. Together they turn a tag read into a record in your system with no friction. Every CX1500N ships from our Delhi facility — WPC-approved, BIS-certified and Made in India.
